Reaction: McKellar on Exeter defeat!!..

Reaction: McKellar in Exeter’s defeat Dan McKellar reacts to Leicester Tigers’ 31-10 defeat by Exeter Chiefs in front of a sold-out Sandy Park.

A slow start by the Tigers and an excellent display from the home side from the first minute meant that the Chiefs dominated the game early on and did not let up except for the Tigers’ purple second half.

McKellar gave a clear assessment of the game. “When you lose most of the tackles in a game of rugby you’re going to struggle to win anywhere, but that’s certainly true at Sandy Park,” McKellar said.

“We showed some fight there in the second half but the fact is we weren’t good enough tonight and Exeter were outstanding.” The loss means the Tigers end their winning streak at five and Leicester now look forward to their New Year’s Eve clash with Bath at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

“It’s about actions now, not words,” McKellar said. “We know we have a great chance to respond after Christmas in front of our packed stadium, but now the proof is here. “It’s important now as a team, as a coach and as a player, to think honestly about why we didn’t meet a good Bath tonight and next week.” McKellar and his side host Bath Rugby next New Year’s Eve, the first action day of back-to-back matches at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, before the men’s home Double Header on January 6.
