
The 49ers may take veteran Verrett off the practice squad against the Ravens After spending two weeks in the Bay Area, cornerback Jason Verrett could make his 2023 NFL season debut when the 49ers host the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night at Levi Stadium. The veteran cornerback was one of three players to receive scout team player of the week honors for their performance in practice. Verrett said he caught an interception or two and broke up several passes. “I’m not sure what the plan is. I don’t know,” Verrett told NBC Sports Bay Area on Saturday. “I’m sure we’ll probably figure something out.” Both head coach Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks were impressed with what they saw from the veteran cornerback, leaving the door open for Verrett to earn a practice squad call for Monday’s contest. AD Advertising “He looks good every day,” Wilks said Friday. “We’ll see if he gets a chance to step up or not, and if so, how many reps he gets.” Verrett hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 49ersand#039; 2021 season opener against the Detroit Lions when he suffered a season-ending ACL injury. The former first-round pick was set to make his 2022 club debut in their Week 10 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers when he tore his Achilles just two days after the training window opened. “Yeah, we pick a scout team player every week,” Shanahan said. – He got it in defense and looked good. He spent a good two weeks here and we want him in our building. AD Advertising Verrett enjoyed being back with the 49ers as Wilks’ coordinator. Although the Texas Christian University product has never played nickel, his knowledge and experience could help ease the transition if necessary. “I love him,” Verrett said of Wilks. “I’ve heard a lot of good things about him. I know a lot of players that were in Carolina when he was there and players that I know when he was in Arizona. “Just his history and who he’s coached, from Antonio Cromartie to Patrick Peterson to Josh Norman. He’s had a list of Super Bowl players and All-Pro players, so he’s somebody you can respect and know behind it. Most coordinators played. either linebacker. or d-line. San Francisco has until Monday to move two players off the practice squad, and Verrett could very well be a candidate.
