The 49ers acquired the former captain’s landing spot after the Shock Move.

49ers Rumors: team DL Sebastian Joseph-Kyle Shanahan has a lot to say about whether the 49ers Sebastian Joseph-Day rumors are true. Getty Kyle Shanahan has a lot to say about whether the 49ers Sebastian Joseph-Day rumors are true. Considering the Chargers’ last seven games, which include six losses and one historic 63-21 blowout, that may have had some expected consequences. But the firing of team captain and 14-game defensive starter Sebastian Joseph-Day was described by the Chargers’ SB Nation site as a “shocking move.” And as is customary in these cases, 49ers rumors suggest that San Francisco could land him. By coach Kyle Shanahan’s own admission, the 49ers have injury issues on defense, especially with Arik Armstead, who is dealing with a foot injury as well as knee issues. He plays the Ravens this week on Monday. Javon Hargrave is questionable with a hamstring injury. Of course, bringing in a new player at this point in the season isn’t easy, and every new roster move should result in another player being dropped. But the 49ers are in Super-Bowl-or-bust mode and can’t let injuries get in their way. Signing Joseph-Day would be an effective insurance move, especially since the NFC rival Cowboys would likely be involved. That’s according to CBS Sports.com, which lists the 49ers as the “landing spot” for Joseph-Day. Sebastian Joseph-Day may have options CBS lists only three possible suitors for Joseph-Day – the Cowboys and 49ers and the Browns in the AFC. But there could be more, especially Jacksonville, Kansas City and Buffalo, all playoff teams that need to bolster their defensive fronts. He was also able to return to his original team, the Rams. Joseph-Day spent his first three NFL seasons with the Rams, helping them to a Super Bowl title in 2021 before signing a three-year, $24 million contract with the Chargers. If Joseph-Day were to return to the NFL this season, he would essentially have to choose between going deep into the postseason with a team like the 49ers or getting a chance to play a lot with a team like the Jags or Browns. Here’s what Garrett Podell of CBS wrote about the Joseph Day rumors for the 49ers: “There may not be a better position to win the Super Bowl this season than the 11-3 San Francisco 49ers. Sebastian Joseph-Day is a Super Bowl champion himself and starting defensive tackle Javon Hargrave will miss the team’s Week 15 game. Against the Arizona Cardinals with a strained hamstring, he could be a nice addition at a critical time of the season for the 49ers. 49ers rumors: Team worried about Armstead injury This ignores the 49ers’ bigger problem, which is the injury to Arik Armstead. Armstead is dealing with the same foot injury he had last year when he left the game with plantar fasciitis. However, he returned to the field in the playoffs, taking 36, 37 and 54 snaps in the 49ers’ three postseason games. Armstead will miss his third straight game Monday night against the Ravens. He’s also dealing with knee issues, but Kyle Shanahan said the leg is more of an issue. Armstead is an elite interior designer. He earned an 81.9 grade on Pro Football Focus, which ranks 10th among 130 qualified defensive linemen in the NFL. Armstead is third on the team in sacks (5.0) and second with 13 quarterback hits. He and Hargrave played against Arizona in Week 15, and the Cardinals answered the 49ers’ front with 234 rushing yards. It’s not entirely the defensive line’s fault, but it’s a concern. “Yes, we are concerned,” Shanahan said Friday. “We think he’s got a chance every week, but I’d say it’s a bit more leg than knee.” Something that has been bothering him for some time now. I just hope the pain goes away.” Hence the 49ers rumors surrounding Sebastian Joseph-Day. Sean Deveney is a veteran sports reporter covering the NBA and NFL for Heavy.com.
