After falling to the Baltimore Ravens on Christmas night, 49ers insider Matt Maiocco shares his thoughts on whether Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan can lead a comeback. Brock Purdy suffered the first concussion of his football career in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals.

The 49ers quarterback now has two picks in two games. “I played well the whole game, I wasn’t thinking about it or anything,” Purdy said Monday night after throwing four interceptions in the 49ers’ 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. “It wasn’t even a thing.”

But in the fourth quarter, Purdy felt the sensation again when Ravens defensive end Jadeveon Clowney threw him a 3-yard field goal. “And just the way I was treated on that play, it just came back like last week,” Purdy said. “So, I had to go through the whole protocol process and everything else in the tent again.

He left the game with 7:50 left in the fourth quarter. He replaced quarterback Sam Darnold and finished the game. Purdy said he has spoken with Shanahan about the possibility of returning to action after he is cleared.

“We just talked about the game scenario we were in, we just got scared and my hand came back, it felt normal and what not,” he said. “Sam went in and scored and he [Shanahan] says, ‘Right now, Sam and I are just going with how things are going.’ And we didn’t want anything else to come out. With the Spike But that was exactly the situation we were in.”

So Sam did well and we cycled with him. Darnold led the 49ers with a touchdown, bringing the 49ers within two points. He threw an interception a minute later when the 49ers had a fourth-and-goal from the Ravens’ 17-yard line.
