The loss and performance at home against an elite team pushed Purdy down the winning MVP totem pole.
Now it looks like Lamar Jackson has the best chance to win it, and even Christian McCaffrey, who should have gotten more credit for it.
However, there are still two games left in the regular season.
A lot can change depending on who is the favorite or not. It is such a volatile time that it can be won week to week. So, can Purdy still win the NFL MVP award? I don’t think he will win.
To win it, he must lead the 49ers to first place, which means the 49ers must win the final two games of the regular season.
This is the first step in keeping him alive. The next step is for Purdy to look good with those wins. He has to be one of the best players in those wins to reignite the NFL MVP.
Both stages made him compete. However, this is probably not enough. Jackson seems to have a solid lead right now, and as long as he doesn’t play terribly in the last two games, he’ll probably win it.
The Ravens can clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs with a win this week, which will only give them momentum to claim the award. The MVP has always gone to a first-team player, and all that momentum now rests with Jackson. He needs to have average performances and the Ravens will lose this week. Those scenarios don’t seem likely right now, so Purdy winning the NFL MVP award this year is out of the question.
