Darnold Has a Chance to Cash in Big if the 49ers Defeat the Rams.

Although the 49ers’ upcoming game won’t impact their postseason standing, it presents an opportunity for quarterback Sam Darnold to earn some extra cash. Darnold, who will be starting for the 49ers for the first time this Sunday, has a clause in his contract that grants him a $300,000 bonus for each game he plays at least a quarter of the offensive snaps and the 49ers secure a victory.

The 49ers will wrap up their regular season at home against the Rams this Sunday. They have secured the top playoff seed in the NFC and will enjoy the benefits of home-field advantage and a first-round bye. Meanwhile, the Rams are also playoff-bound and will either be the sixth or seventh seed. Their coach, Sean McVay, revealed that key players like Matthew Stafford and Aaron Donald will not be playing in this upcoming game.

General manager John Lynch stated that despite receiving more financially enticing contract offers as a free agent, Darnold chose to join the 49ers. Although Purdy played all 16 games for the team, Darnold had limited opportunities to see the field prior to Week 18. When questioned about his decision, Darnold confidently replied, “Absolutely not. I have no doubts or regrets whatsoever.”

During the offseason, Darnold secured a one-year deal worth $4.5 million and managed to surpass Trey Lance to secure the backup position behind Purdy. Additionally, if he participates in any postseason game and plays in at least 50 percent of the 49ers’ offensive snaps, he has the opportunity to earn an extra $100,000.
