While Matthew Stafford has played numerous games in Detroit, none of them compare to the one he will be playing there on Sunday night.
Stafford was the quarterback for the Lions during his prior appearances at Ford Field; but, this time, he will be leading the Rams into their playoff game against the NFC North champions. It will be the first playoff game to be played in Detroit since 1993, which is another significant change.
Following the Rams’ victory over the 49ers with backup quarterback Carson Wentz to set up that game, Stafford expressed his excitement for the team’s postseason run and said that the schedule is “fun for me on a personal level.”
According to Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com, Stafford said, “I know it’s going to be rocking there.” There hasn’t been a playoff game there in, perhaps, thirty years. Thus, there will be a wonderful vibe. We’re enthused about the challenge, even though it will be difficult.
There “will be a lot of stuff beforehand” with Stafford back, and quarterback Jared Goff of the Lions, who was acquired in the Stafford deal and has exceeded expectations as the team’s starter, will also be involved. Both quarterbacks will have to weather that and remain focused on the game as they get ready for what should be an unforgettable evening in the Motor City.
