After being cut by the Indianapolis Colts, star linebacker Shaq Leonard was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in a major midseason move. The goal of the deal was to strengthen the team’s defense in preparation for a deep run in the playoffs.
Regrettably, the Eagles have collapsed since the significant relocation. They went from being the overwhelming favorite in the NFC to being the fifth seed and having to travel to Tampa Bay on Monday night to play their Wild Card contest.
Even if the Eagles struggled in the end, Leonard was a great addition. On the other hand, he revealed some startling information regarding his future in the NFL.
Leonard stated on Friday, “I think that will be a tough discussion for myself.” “After undergoing two back surgeries, you understand that you have to take your time and try to work things out.” You have to see yourself on video all year. Does continuing make sense? Are you the person you are? Do you only exist as a bare shell? This off-season, I’m thinking about a lot of things.
Given the past few years’ whirlwind, it makes sense that Leonard might consider hanging up his cleats.
Leonard recorded a sack in addition to 23 total tackles in five games during the regular season with the Eagles. He has also shown himself to be a capable team leader. If his career ends the way it has for the past two seasons, that would be a pity.
What choices Shaq Leonard makes about his playing career will only become clear with time. But the Eagles still have a chance to salvage their season before all of that. Gaining back confidence and possibly igniting a postseason run would be greatly aided by defeating the Buccaneers.
