Shocking Upset: Dolphins Reflect on Playoff Loss and Plan for Redemption Next Season

The Miami Dolphins lost to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday night, 26-7, which ended their 2023 season after just one playoff game.

Mike McDaniel’s squad started the year off brilliantly, but a collapse against the Tennessee Titans late in the season and three straight losses to conclude it leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouths around the organization and fan base.

Following the game, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and several players, including McDaniel, spoke about the season’s ending and the defeat.

Together, we broke records. In terms of statistics, we are all going down in the history books together. In the end, we were not victorious. It’s difficult at the conclusion of the season, and you have to grow from your experiences. I’m sorry for every guy. You invest a great deal of time, but the league changes quickly. A third of the people in this room will not be here next year, and reality hits hard and fast. I’m relishing every second I have left with these guys.

RB Raheem Mostert

A loss is never pleasant, particularly in these challenging postseason times when it’s the Wild Card Game and the playoff run. It’s all about being resilient and coming back the following year. I know a lot of guys that, if you lose, the dude who I’m talking about is going to Cancun. I am not planning on a stinking Cancun trip. My main goal is to get back on track so that I can compete next year.

DL Christian Wilkins

“I said to the players in the locker room that this is the most fun I’ve had as a Miami Dolphin and since I’ve been in the league. The reason for this is the daily actions, contributions, and significance of the guys to them. We’ve undoubtedly come a long way. Both individually and as a group, there is still room for improvement. I believe the recipe is there, and that’s what will occur in the upcoming years.

HC Mike McDaniel

“I’m not in the right frame of mind to consider the full season. We had goals that we didn’t reach tonight, and that, in my opinion, is the whole point of this team and team sports. I believe that one of the main reasons it hurts so much is that no one on this squad has ever indulged in all the excesses or considered all the various factors—such as weather or injuries—that are discussed. We were here to win, but that was not the case.We didn’t achieve our objectives. We held ourselves in very high regard. Many individuals avoid putting themselves out there and having those expectations because it can be emotionally and mentally devastating to fall short of them. I don’t think it does the squad justice to be categorized in this way for the season or other big-picture matters going forward. We dropped a match. We played with fearlessness, as if we knew we would win, but we have to give it to the Kansas City Chiefs. They outperformed us, outwitted us, and did all of those things. My thoughts are right there. When you see me again later in the week, I’ll be more adept at responding to that.
