In an attempt to make the playoffs again, the Philadelphia Eagles dropped five of their last six regular-season games. However, some are now questioning whether Jalen Hurts’ actions are the main cause of the team’s downfall.
There’s a long-standing idea within the Eagles organization—according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer—that Hurts’ disposition might be changed for the better.
Regarding the team’s feelings for Hurts, McLane said, “If he can open himself up a little more, improve his body language, and take more ownership even when he’s not at fault, it could help the team in times of distress.”
Given that Hurts has received high appreciation for his leadership abilities since assuming the position as Philadelphia’s full-time starting quarterback in 2021, this is a somewhat peculiar development.
However, it appears that Hurts hasn’t exactly made friends with teammates or Philly’s staff this season.
This season, Hurts completed 65.4% of his passes for 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, with a passer rating of 89.1. He also gained 15 touchdowns and 605 yards in rushes.
When the Eagles were 10-1 in November of last year, it seemed like they would be heading to the Super Bowl again. They appeared as though they might win the championship.
But since then, Philadelphia has only had a 1-5 record. Most recently, they lost to the New York Giants in a humiliating blowout in the regular-season finale. Hurts suffered a dislocated finger in the loss, but he will play on Monday night when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round.
After a challenging regular season, it will be interesting to watch if Hurts can do well in the postseason. If not, there might be additional inquiries this offseason concerning Jalen Hurts’ mindset.
