Ron Washington’s Fond Farewell to the Braves and Endorsement of Alex Anthopoulos.

Ron Washington, who is set to begin his debut season as the Los Angeles Angels’ manager in 2024, was previously associated with the Atlanta Braves, where they enjoyed a remarkable streak of triumph, including winning the 2021 World Series. This victorious run led to the Braves’ general manager, Alex Anthopoulos, receiving a contract extension that will keep him with the team until the 2031 season. Washington shared his thoughts on Anthopoulos’ extended tenure with the Braves.

I did have a conversation with him,” Ron Washington mentioned on Foul Territory. “When it occurred, I made sure to reach out to him. Alex is an exceptional individual who values the well-being of his team, including myself. He took care of me during my time there. Additionally, not many people are aware that I was frequently offered other job opportunities, but as soon as I arrived in Atlanta, I made it clear to Alex that I wouldn’t leave unless I was offered a managerial position. Every year, he would inform me about organizations that were interested in having me on board for various roles, but I remained loyal to my commitment of staying put in Atlanta. I only departed once the opportunity to manage arose.”

Washington stated that the timing of the opportunity to coach the Angels was perfect for him, following his time with the Braves. As the 2024 season approaches, the Braves maintain one of the top lineups in Major League Baseball, whereas Washington aims to lead the Angels to an unexpectedly successful season, despite the absence of Shohei Ohtani.
