Game manager critiques are addressed by 49ers Brock Purdy once more

Brock Purdy, the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, responded to criticism once more, saying that head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offensive scheme has made him little more than a “game manager” or an output of it.

Speaking about the topic in December, former quarterback Cam Newton caused a stir when he called Purdy and other quarterbacks “game managers” rather than “game-changers.” Purdy came across as utterly unconcerned by the incident. Even though Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson most certainly won the regular-season Most Valuable Player Award, Purdy led the Niners to a 12-5 record and the NFC’s top spot in the playoffs.

Purdy led the league in qualified players at the end of the regular season, according to ESPN data, with a 72.7 adjusted QBR, 113.0 passer rating, and an average of 9.6 yards per pass attempt. Also, he had 31 touchdown passes, placing him third.

The 49ers are heavy favourites by 10 points as of Monday afternoon at DraftKings Sportsbook for this Saturday’s prime-time divisional playoff matchup with the Green Bay Packers in San Francisco’s Levi’s Stadium. The Niners were also the betting favourites at +180 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII on DraftKings.

Going from “managing” San Francisco to a title and winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy in February, Purdy probably wouldn’t mind at all.
