Eagles Injury Update: Darius Slay dodged’major’ scare against Bucs

Darius Slay, the Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback, was taken off the field with an apparent back injury during Monday night’s playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Slay looked to become entangled during a tackle and was spotted favouring the lower part of his back before assistance arrived.

However, at the Eagles’ locker room cleaning on Wednesday, Slay confirmed that his injury is not “major” and that he expects to be “completely healed” in three weeks, according to NBC Sports’ Dave Zangaro.

When asked about the specifics of his injuries, the 33-year-old couldn’t remember exactly what the doctor had told him.

“I do not… “It’s really big-ass words,” Slay told Zangaro. “I’m not sure; I’m not excellent at English. When they were talking to me, I tried to tell them to simplify things. It’s like a tiny tear in my back.”

Despite missing five games this season due to injury, Slay led the cornerbacks in 2023 with 57 tackles, 14 passes defended, and two interceptions, one of which he recovered for a touchdown.

The five-time Pro Bowler is under contract with the Birds for two more seasons after signing a $42 million extension last March.
