Kyle Shanahan of the 49ers speaks on Brock Purdy’s relationship with quarterback coach

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has dismissed any potential conflict between quarterback Brock Purdy and quarterbacks coach Brian Griese.

Griese recently admitted to having heated discussions with Purdy, which drew the attention of the media.

Shanahan was asked about the connection between Purdy and Griese this week, and he dismissed the notion that things are tense.

“I don’t know exactly how it goes over there,” Shanahan stated on the 49ers’ official YouTube channel. “They generally sit down and talk, but I get quite furious. Griese handles me rather well.”

Shanahan went on to say that Purdy and Griese are getting along just fine.

“So I don’t think he’s out of control or anything,” he added. “If he was, I would have pushed the button several times. Brock has that as well. Brock is a competitive dude. It’s not like he’ll just sit there. I suppose we’re all quite similar.”

Shanahan also stated that he appreciates Purdy and Griese’s candour and believes that their animated chats are actually healthy.

“We enjoy having honest, real conversations, and doing so during a football game is very intense. “You expect that,” Kyle Shanahan said. “If you ever work with someone who you don’t have those type of conversations with, it’s usually not that genuine of a relationship.”

Brock Purdy has had an outstanding season, throwing for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while completing 69.4 percent of his passes and having a league-leading passer rating of 113.

The Niners finished 12-5 this season, receiving a first-round bye. They will host the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs on Saturday.
