The San Francisco 49ers are exceptionally healthy and well-rested going into their divisional round matchup with the Green Bay Packers.
The 49ers’ final injury report for their primetime playoff matchup against the Niners was certified by head coach Kyle Shanahan, and it’s a very positive read for San Francisco.
defensive end The 49ers’ sole injured player is Clelin Ferrell, whose knee injury from Week 18 has long since been verified. Arik Armstead, a defensive tackle, will finally play again after missing the previous five games due to foot and knee problems. He is not classified as injured.
The only other player with an injury classification besides Ferrell is linebacker Dre Greenlaw. Despite having an Achilles issue that is categorised as questionable, there is no indication that he won’t start alongside fellow starter Fred Warner.
The 49ers will benefit greatly from Armstead’s return, especially in run defence, where they have suffered without him. During his absence, San Francisco allowed 115.4 yards per game on the ground. This week, the 49ers will play Aaron Jones, a rushing back who shredded the Dallas Cowboys for 118 yards and three touchdowns in Green Bay’s unexpected victory over the two-seed last week.
The 49ers will be without one of their season’s more unheralded heroes with Ferrell out. Ferrell, a former Raiders fourth-round pick, hasn’t shown to be a particularly effective pass rusher, but last week Nick Bosa stated that Ferrell gave “probably the best effort of anybody on the team”.
In order to make Green Bay become a one-dimensional assault, Chase Young and Randy Gregory will need to step up and make sure they are excellent at maintaining the advantage against the run game.
Backup safety George Odum, who has not played since being placed on injured reserve due to a torn bicep in the Thanksgiving victory over the Seattle Seahawks, will be activated before the deadline on Saturday, according to Shanahan’s confirmation.
