49ers place starting defensive lineman on injured reserve for the remainder of the season

The postseason of one San Francisco 49ers defence is finished before it has started.

Due to a knee injury, the Niners placed defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell on injured reserve on Saturday, terminating his season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. In response, San Francisco is activating safety George Odum off of injured reserve.

The former first-round pick Ferrell was already ruled out of Saturday’s divisional playoff game against the Green Bay Packers earlier in the week. Ferrell has started all 17 of the Niners’ regular-season games, registering 3.5 sacks and a career-high 13 quarterback hits. This is a significant blow for the team.

Still, there’s no denying that the much favoured Niners, ranked first, will easily defeat the Packers. The former champion defensive lineman that San Francisco recently signed might also use this as his chance to fully establish himself.
