49ers victory over the Packers finally ends Kyle Shanahan’s terrible run

It seems like Kyle Shanahan has finally overcome his setbacks.

In Saturday’s divisional playoff game, Shanahan’s San Francisco 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers in a thrilling comeback triumph.

The 49ers won 24-21 after trailing 21-14 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. They scored twice, a field goal and a touchdown, and then intercepted rookie quarterback Jordan Love of the Packers on Green Bay’s last drive.

The stunning victory by San Francisco ended Shanahan’s horrible run of results. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers were 0-30 under Shanahan prior to Saturday’s game when down by five scores or more going into the fourth quarter.

However, the 49ers’ victory over the Packers marked their first of seven straight in which Shanahan has been in control of a team of that calibre.

Shanahan handled the match on Saturday with skill. He overcame losing Deebo Samuel to a head injury in the first half and wisely decided against using a timeout prior to Christian McCaffrey’s game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter, which cost the Packers 40 crucial seconds.

Despite Shanahan’s extensive record of losing playoff games, he still has a lot of work to do to change the narrative, but this divisional round victory was a significant step in the right way.
