This summer, the Philadelphia Eagles might be looking to chat with one of their previous coordinators in order to make some changes to their coaching staff.
On Thursday, veteran sports radio personality Dan Sileo revealed that the Eagles have inquired about Frank Reich’s potential role as offensive coordinator.
Speaking about it on his regular broadcast, Sileo went into further detail. According to him, there were several reasons why the Eagles contacted Reich. According to Sileo, the Eagles have looked into having Reich take over as their offensive coordinator. According to reports, the organisation also wants Reich to offer guidance and suggestions regarding some of the other coaches in the league.
This season, Brian Johnson led the Eagles’ offence as coordinator. After serving as the team’s quarterbacks coach for the first two seasons, he was given a promotion. Late in the season, play-caller Sean Desai—who was in his first season as the team’s defensive coordinator—was dismissed.
This week, there was another story stating that Howie Roseman, the general manager of the Eagles, and head coach Nick Sirianni are collaborating on potential coaching staff changes. The coordinators on the team were perceived as a weakness by the media as well. Everything seems to indicate that the Eagles are trying to seek some assistance and make changes to their coaching staff.
Johnson has interviewed to be the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, even though he is still the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
The Eagles’ decision to get in touch with Reich to inquire about his interest in joining the team again makes perfect sense. Reich oversaw the offensive schemes of the Eagles both in their 2016 and 2017 Super Bowl winning campaigns. Before Indianapolis sacked him as head coach of the Colts, he was likewise successful there. The impatient Panthers fired him as well following this season’s 1-10 start. Reich would provide stability and experience to the Eagles. And he could at least offer some useful advice.
Regarding whether or not Sileo is a reliable source on this front, it’s important to remember that in 1983, he and Reich were teammates at Maryland. Reich has already been on Sileo’s programme as a guest.
