Eagles have contacted Ryan Nielsen and Wink Martindale regarding the DC job

Dianna Russini reports that Eagles vice president Howie Roseman and head coach Nick Sirianni are still contacting possible coordinators, like as former Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale and former Falcons defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen, about their defensive coordinator position.

Previous reports stated that DC Sean Desai and the Eagles have formally parted ways.

The sixty-year-old Martindale started his coaching career in 1986 at Defiance as the defensive coordinator. Later, in 2004, he accepted a coaching position in the NFL with the Raiders.

Martindale left the Broncos after a few years to become the linebackers coach for the Ravens, where he finally rose to the position of defensive coordinator in 2018. In 2020, he consented to a three-year extension. But following the 2021 season, he and the Ravens mutually split ways.

In 2022, Martindale became a member of the Giants staff, serving as their defensive coordinator. But after two seasons, he left the position.

In terms of yards allowed, points allowed, running yards allowed, and passing yards allowed in 2023, the Giants defence was rated No. 27.

The 44-year-old Nielsen began his coaching career at USC in 2002. He later spent the following ten plus years at several locations in college football, serving as either a defensive coordinator or DL coach, before being hired by Ole Miss as their DL coach in 2005.

He was hired as the Saints’ defensive line coach in 2017 after leaving N.C. State. In 2021, he expanded his title to assistant head coach.

The Saints elevated Nielsen and Kris Richard to co-defensive coordinator positions in 2022. In 2023, he started working with the Falcons as a full-time DC.

The Falcons defence ranked eighth in passing yards allowed, twentyth in rushing yards allowed, eighteenth in total defence, and eighteenth in scoring defence in 2023.
