Wide receiver Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers will have tests done on his shoulder to ascertain the extent of the damage he suffered in Friday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers won 24-21 at Levi’s Stadium to guarantee their place in the NFC Championship Game for the third straight year.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Samuel assured a few employees that he was “OK.” However, until the tests are finished, the 49ers won’t be able to determine the full severity of the injury.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan commented, “I don’t know yet,” following the match. He made an attempt to return, but was unsuccessful. We’ll see tomorrow since I know he did something similar against Cleveland.”
Samuel suffered a hairline fracture in his shoulder, which kept him out of most of the Week 6 game against the Browns and the next two games. It was a 0-3 stretch in the San Francisco season.
Michael Irvin discussed his conversation with Samuel after the game and gave a brief update on the star receiver’s health in an NFL Network piece.
“He said this time around he does feel better,” Irvin stated. “He was unable to raise his arm after his previous injury. He expressed hope that he will be OK for next week because he said he could this time.”
Shanahan acknowledged the difficulties that Samuel’s absence presents when discussing how it affects the football pitch.
“It changes a lot of stuff, especially when you have wristbands and things like that,” said Shanahan. “You simply need to rotate a few men, which presents a constant difficulty for those guys. It occurred during the Cleveland game, and our response was inadequate. It’s a big task, but I think we handled it better today than we did back then.
“Deebo is obviously one of our better players, but he also is a unique guy that goes to some certain spots, so you’ve got to be adjusting that all game.”
