The Eagles Set Sights on a Coach with Deep Ties to Philly.

The Philadelphia Eagles are planning to interview former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell, as reported by ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler. Although it is not directly mentioned in Fowler’s report, the Eagles are currently looking to fill the defensive coordinator position, with Ron Rivera also being considered for the role.

Caldwell is being considered for a senior defensive role with the Las Vegas Raiders, as noted in Fowler’s report. However, the final decision is dependent on the future of the current defensive coordinator, Patrick Graham, who is still under contract with the Raiders and also in contention for head coaching positions elsewhere.

Caldwell had a career as a linebacker in the NFL from 1993 to 2003, playing for six different teams. His time with the Eagles spanned from 1998 to 2001. Since 2008, Caldwell has transitioned to coaching, starting as a defensive quality control coach from 2008 to 2009, then moving on to become an assistant linebackers coach in 2010, and ultimately assuming the role of linebackers coach from 2011 to 2012.

After spending two seasons with the Jaguars, Caldwell was let go following their failure to make the playoffs this year. It’s important to mention that Caldwell served as the inside linebackers coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers between 2019 and 2021. During this time, he played a crucial role in guiding Devin White and Lavonte David to earn All-Pro selections. Caldwell was also instrumental in the team’s victory in Super Bowl VL, where they held Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to a mere nine points.
