Heading into Sunday’s NFC Championship Game, the San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions should be certain that Brock Purdy and Jared Goff will lead their teams. NFL analyst and former offensive lineman Ross Tucker recently explained why he believes one has a clear advantage over the other.
Tucker, who appeared on “The Jim Rome Show,” chose Goff over Purdy because he believes the Lions’ offensive strategy is more suited to him.
Tucker praised the Lions’ offence with Goff in control, saying, “Based on the way he’s playing,” it’s hard not to assume he’ll outperform Purdy this Sunday.
Following another outstanding regular season, Goff has performed admirably in the playoffs. In wins over the Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he completed 74% of his passes and threw for 564 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.
Similarly, Purdy had a stellar season, receiving his first Pro Bowl selection after throwing for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 16 starts. He was ordinary in the 49ers’ divisional-round victory over the Green Bay Packers, going 23-of-39 for 252 yards and one score.
Despite the glitch, Tucker believes Goff will outperform Purdy on Sunday.
“I think Purdy will play better than he did Saturday night against Green Bay for a couple of reasons,” Tucker stated in a statement. “Perhaps it was rust.” Perhaps it was the weather. Whatever.”
