Los Angeles Lee-USA TODAY Sports vs. Chicago BearsAwaken! There is a new offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. Kellen Moore, an OC with the Dallas Cowboys and former Los Angeles Charger, is signed by the Birds to be their new signal caller.
Before NFL insider Adam Schefter obtained additional confirmation, Howard Eskin made the initial announcement about the hiring.
Moore is among the three individuals reported to have had interviews for the Eagles position. Kliff Kingsbury and Jerrod Johnson were the others.
What we previously wrote regarding Moore follows: Following Moore’s appointment as the Cowboys’ play-caller in place of Scott Linehan, the Dallas offense saw a notable improvement.
From 24th in DVOA in 2018 to second in 2019, their offensive showed improvement. 2020 saw the Cowboys go back to 24th place, but it is clear that Dak Prescott’s season-ending injury had a significant role in that.
Before Prescott got hurt, Dallas had a good offensive start to the season (32.6 points per game).
Moore managed a Cowboys offense in 2021 that finished fourth in DVOA while he remained in Dallas. But the Cowboys lost to No. 14 in 2022, which forced the team to fire Moore and hand play-calling duties to Mike McCarthy.
Moore’s shot was viewed with suspicion, yet it appeared effective. The Cowboys had a stellar year that put Dak Prescott in the MVP debate, and they ended ninth in DVOA.In the meanwhile, Moore signed Bolts offensive signal caller Brandon Staley.
The 2023 Chargers were ranked 21st in offensive points per game, 24th in EPA per game, and 16th in DVOA. Before his injury, Justin Herbert started 13 games with a passer rating of 93.2.
which matched his passing score for 2022 exactly. The Chargers’ misfortune from the previous season was mostly due to Moore. Because Staley was terrible, he was dismissed.
Tom Telesco, general manager of LA, was also let go. However, he wasn’t a part of the solution, and the Chargers don’t seem to be bothered about attempting to retain Moore in favor of letting Jim Harbaugh choose a new offensive coordinator. Moore has long piqued the curiosity of the Eagles.
As Doug Pederson’s offensive coordinator in 2020, they appeared to be considering him. After firing Pederson, they then interviewed Moore for their head coaching position in 2021.
Therefore, rather than being a Nick Sirianni hire, this appears to be more of a Jeffrey Lurie/Howie Roseman hire. With Sirianni seeming to be stepping back from his prior offensive role, Moore has the responsibility of turning things around for the Eagles.
It is anticipated that he will contribute “new concepts” since the offense became “somewhat stale” in the previous campaign. Given his prior experience, Moore seems qualified to supervise superior outcomes. He was able to sign with his third squad in three seasons, though, for another reason.
