J.J. McCarthy’s QB Coach Has Some Surprising Insights That Could Affect the Broncos’ Plans.

After Woody Paige made a prediction about Bo Nix from Oregon, the quarterback has gained attention. Pro Football Focus also suggested that Nix would be a good match for the Denver Broncos, which has received positive recognition. However, it should be noted that the decision at pick No. 12 is not set in stone for Sean Payton and his team, as they will consider other possibilities as well.

Both Nix and McCarthy have the potential to succeed at the professional level if they find themselves in the right situation. They both have strong arms and can make plays with their legs. However, McCarthy may have an advantage over Nix as he is a few years younger and has a National Championship on his record.

McCarthy was prepared for the professional league by his personal coach, Greg Holcomb, who owns Next Level Athletix. Holcomb used Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as a notable example while getting McCarthy in shape for the NFL. McCarthy explained that he would record games, such as Mahomes’, and then show them to his team. They would then create drills based on what they saw, and McCarthy was always able to execute them flawlessly on his first try.

It’s understandable to draw inspiration from Mahomes’ game given his NFL achievements, but Holcomb also revealed McCarthy’s extensive range of resources that he utilizes to constantly improve as a quarterback. McCarthy’s maturity is evident in his pregame mental preparations, where he engages in activities such as reading books about Navy SEALS and meditation. Holcomb believes that McCarthy is the greatest quarterback to emerge from Michigan and sees immense potential in his future.

Just a couple of weeks ago, we discussed how McCarthy’s coach at Michigan, Jim Harbaugh, who was recently hired as the head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers, expressed his belief in McCarthy’s preparedness for the NFL. Harbaugh stated that he could not deny that he thinks McCarthy is ready for the NFL, as he strongly believes in his abilities.

NFL teams will focus on McCarthy’s impressive 27-1 record as a starter when reviewing his data, highlighting this achievement more prominently than any other factor. Additionally, they will also take note of the positive feedback received by Holcomb about McCarthy.

McCarthy is highly regarded for his selflessness, according to Holcomb. There are countless non-football aspects to McCarthy’s character that are worth mentioning, making his actions all the more remarkable. It is important for the Broncos to consider all of this information about McCarthy as they seem to be undergoing a period of transition and change.

Payton’s eagerness to rejuvenate the Broncos was evident when he decisively let go of struggling veteran edge rushers Randy Gregory and Frank Clark in the early stages of the 2023 season. This was later followed by a contentious choice to sideline Russell Wilson, who was 35 years old at the time, for the final two games.

Undoubtedly, choosing a rookie quarterback relatively early in the draft would signify a transition from Wilson, yet the Broncos are likely to decide on the veteran QB’s future long before that. Opting for a 21-year-old quarterback like McCarthy could be the logical progression of Payton’s initiative to bring in younger talent in Denver, and regardless of how it unfolds, it is bound to be the most sensational decision he has made so far.
