According to Adam Schefter, it appears that head coach Sean Payton has once again removed a significant individual from his time with the New Orleans Saints.
Cody Rager first joined the Saints as a scout for the Southeastern area and eventually rose to the position of assistant college scouting director. Over his nine-year tenure, he has proven to be an invaluable asset to New Orleans general manager Jeff Ireland, even during Ireland’s time in Miami. Now, it appears that Rager will continue his role as a valuable resource for Denver Broncos general manager George Paton.
I believe we are all curious about how this will affect the 2024 draft. It is clear that Sean Payton is loyal to his team from New Orleans, and the fact that several members have joined him in Denver suggests that the feeling is mutual.
Rager successfully completed his graduate studies at the University of Alabama, earning a Master’s degree in Human Environmental Science and another in Sports Management. Building on his experience at Alabama, he started his career off strong as the Player Personnel Assistant for the Crimson Tide from 2010 to 2012.
After his tenure with the Miami Dolphins as a scout in 2012, Rager went on to become the Director of Player Personnel at Indiana University for a period. Subsequently, he transitioned to the University of Tennessee, where he assumed the role of Director of Recruiting.
After Rager joined the Saints in 2015, everything changed for him. However, his time as a VP in the Broncos’ personnel is still yet to happen.
