Philadelphia Eagles Might Make A Major Move To Sign A Playmaker in Free Agency

The Philadelphia Eagles need a playmaker in their backfield, and Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon sees a potential solution this offseason.

Austin Ekeler, the Los Angeles Chargers’ running back.

Ekeler is set to enter free agency in March, and he stated after the season that he knows he will not return to the Chargers in 2024.

This allows organisations like the Eagles to take a chance on him.

Furthermore, he may prove to be a cost-effective choice, especially for a Philadelphia team with limited cap room this spring.

Ekeler is coming off a disappointing 2023 season in which he carried for 628 yards and five touchdowns while averaging only 3.5 yards per carry. He also has 51 receptions for 436 yards and a touchdown.

Is the 28-year-old in decline? Maybe, but it’s worth mentioning that in 2022, Ekeler rushed for 915 yards and 13 touchdowns while catching 107 passes for 722 yards and five scores.

While it is certainly feasible that Ekeler dropped off between 2022 and this season, it is also likely that Ekeler simply requires a change of scenery.

The Lincoln, Nebraska native, who played collegiate football at little-known Western State in Colorado, went undrafted but joined Los Angeles in 2017.

Ekeler showed promising versatility early on, and in 2019, he had a breakout year, rushing for 557 yards and three touchdowns and catching 92 passes for 993 yards and eight touchdowns.

Ekeler has never ran for 1,000 yards in a single season, although he has led the league in all-purpose touchdowns twice, in 2021 and 2022.

If Ekeler can recapture his prior form, he will undoubtedly be a great assistance to Philadelphia.
