The 49ers have the strongest offensive weapons in the NFL, including the underappreciated Jauan Jennings.
Jennings is the 49ers’ fifth option, and he rarely sees the ball when the top four receivers are healthy. Of course, I am talking about Christian McCaffrey, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle. Those four were healthy last week, but Jennings only caught one pass.
But when one of those Big 4 weapons goes down, as Deebo Samuel did in the divisional playoff game against the Packers due to a shoulder injury, Jennings is the one who steps up and plays like a game changer. Remember, he had 5 receptions for 61 yards against the Packers, including an incredible 21-yard catch on 3rd and 10 when down in the fourth quarter.
It’s challenging enough to cover McCaffrey, Aiyuk, Samuel, and Kittle. It is impossible to cover all four of them while also covering Jennings. He’s usually open. Throw him the ball more than once or twice per game.
Jennings is the Niners’ secret weapon. They love to compliment his blocking since he is the best blocking wide receiver in the NFL. They also say he’s the best route runner on the team, even better than Aiyuk. So, throw Jennings the dang ball.
All he needs are opportunities. When the 49ers give them to him, he delivers. He’s the best fifth option in the NFL, surpassing Kyle Juszczyk, the 49ers’ previous fifth option.
Jennings will be a restricted free agent this offseason, so the Super Bowl could be his last game with the 49ers. Do not waste it.
