BREAKING NEWS On Jeff Ulbrich becoming the new 49ers Defensive Coordinator….

Is Jeff Ulbrich the next 49ers defensive coordinator?

Ulbrich seems attractive to the 49ers for a number of reasons. The bin begins the next Thursday and the 49ers haven’t hired a defensive coordinator yet, so they probably should.

If they do, experts are speculating who the 49ers will hire to fill that spot. Recently, Tim Kawakami of The Athletic speculated that the 49ers will hire New York Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.

Ulbrich appears to be attractive to the 49ers for several reasons.

1. He coaches 49ers coach Robert Saleh, which means Ulbrich knows and has experience coaching the 49ers’ Wide 9 defensive scheme.

2. He was a quarterback and linebacker coach like DeMeco Ryans, who was the 49ers defensive coordinator after Saleh, who was also a linebacker coach earlier in his career.

3. Ulbrich is from the Bay Area, went to San Jose State and played for the 49ers, so he might want to work for them.Of course, the Jets shouldn’t let Ulbrich go.

To move However, the 49ers only allowed assistant head coach Anthony Lynn to go to the Washington Commanders, meaning the 49ers could hire Ulbrich to be their assistant head coach/defensive coordinator and give him a big raise.

The only problem with this potential move is that it could hurt Saleh’s relationship with Kyle Shanahan, as Saleh is currently in his fourth season with the Jets and could be fired if he misses next season’s playoffs.

Would Shanahan really confiscate his friend’s defensive coordinator and leave him in the lurch?

I guess we’ll find out..
