Release of Four-Time Pro Bowler Is Expected to Attract Major FA Interest (Report)

At the beginning of the league season, the Miami Dolphins plan to release cornerback Xavien Howard, a four-time Pro Bowler, according to Mike Garafolo. Everyone is aware that the National Football League is a business, and the events of today serve as yet another reminder of how fast players’ windows of opportunity close.

In the 2016 NFL Draft, Howard was selected in the second round by the Miami Dolphins, and he was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2018. But in 2020, he really made a name for himself as a top cornerback.

The cornerback, who started every game in the season, concluded with a league-high 10 interceptions and 20 passes defended. He had two more successful seasons after that before beginning to decline in 2023. This was sufficient rationale for the Miami Dolphins to decide to cut Xavien Howard, since doing so with a post-June 1st designation will free up $18.5 million in cap space.

Still, he may find another NFL team to play for now that he is no longer with the Dolphins. The report suggests that other teams will attempt to sign him after the official release.
