Xavien Howard will be remembered as the Miami Dolphins’ greatest draft choice during the Chris Grier era.
After Dennis Hickey was ousted as Miami’s general manager and draft coordinator, Grier selected Howard, a former star player for Baylor, in the second round of the draft.
The 30-year-old cornerback, Howard, was selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He was a key player in a draft that also saw Miami choose Laremy Tunsil in the first round. Howard spent eight successful years as a Dolphin.
A career marked by four Pro Bowl selections, one All-Pro team selection, and 29 interceptions—tied for fourth in Dolphins history and the most in the NFL since 2017—that he has delivered.
While Howard has had difficulty staying healthy throughout his NFL career, Miami plans to release him on June 1 when the new league year kicks off on March 13. His ball skills are exceptional, and his one-on-one coverage skills have occasionally allowed Miami’s defenses to shine during various eras and defense schemes.
This is the reason why Jalen Ramsey, Howard’s cornerback partner, alluded to the fact that Howard won’t be an easy player for the Dolphins to replace on Friday when he addressed his release on social media, calling Howard the “GREATEST cornerback in Miami Dolphins History.”
