Nets get troubling injury update on Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons made three All-Star teams in his first four seasons in the league, leading some to compare his versatility, size and passing ability to those of LeBron James and Magic Johnson.

Unfortunately, injuries derailed his career so that he missed 167,226 games over the last three seasons, 82 of which came with the Sixers and the last 85 with the Nets.

According to the latest injury report from the Nets, Simmons has been ruled out of Monday’s game against the Grizzlies with a nerve injury.

The Australian-born player was initially a question mark due to a sore leg that kept him out of the Nets’ previous three games. On Monday, however, Simmons was ruled out with “nerve damage in his left lower back.

The 11th-ranked Nets (24-36) are currently two games behind the Hawks (26-34) for play-in. Simmons may have already played his final game of the 2023-24 season.

Last November, New York Post reporter Brian Lewis reported that a back specialist said Simmons could never look “repetitive” and “unpredictable” and that the point guard should address his surgery with a repaired disc that never fully heals.

Simmons underwent back surgery in May 2022.
