The Bucs have known for the past seven seasons which two players would be at the top of their wide receiver depth chart.
WR2 is Chris Godwin, WR1 is Mike Evans.
Since 2017, everything have remained the same, and Tampa Bay’s dynamic combination has grown to be the best wide receiver this team has ever had. They are more than that, though.
In addition to being the most effective and productive offensive player in Bucs history, Mike Evans is the team’s greatest receiver ever. Chris Godwin is now without a doubt Tampa Bay’s second-greatest receiver of all time, only surpassed by Evans.
After finishing his tenth season with the Bucs, Evans holds the records for the most receiving yards (11,680), catches (762), targets (1,321), and receiving touchdowns (94) in team history. In addition, he holds the NFL record for the most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons to begin a career with ten seasons and counting. He also has the most overall touchdowns in team history.
Godwin is now tied with Jimmie Giles for second place in receiving touchdowns (34), targets (754), catches (529), and receiving yards (6,690). He recently concluded his seventh season with the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Both Evans and Godwin are Bucs Ring of Honor-worthy when they decide to walk away from the game.
How many teams can say they’ve seen the best two receivers in their respective franchise histories suit up together and line up on the field at the same time?
The answer is “not many,” which is why it’s worth appreciating time and again what the Bucs have in this duo.
In fact, it’s because of Evans and Godwin that Tampa Bay’s wide receiver room (as currently constructed) has more receiving yards as a collective group than any other room in the league. Based on this graph put together by Arjun Menon, Bucs wide receivers have combined for 19,713 career receiving yards, beating out the Titans’ receiving corps, who is the next closest at 19,556.
