Buccaneers’ Todd Bowles, GM clap back at Falcons, Kirk Cousins hype

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles addressed the media during Tuesday’s NFL owners’ meetings, responding to the notion that the Falcons are favored to clinch the NFC South division title next season following the acquisition of quarterback Kirk Cousins in free agency.

However, Bowles, known for his no-nonsense approach, made it clear that his focus is on winning during the regular season, not the offseason. He emphasized that the team’s primary goal is to defend their title and advance further in the playoffs.

Both Bowles and Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht took pride in the team’s achievements last season, despite earlier predictions of a subpar performance following Tom Brady’s retirement in February 2023.

DraftKings Sportsbook currently lists the Falcons as the frontrunners to win the NFC South next season, with the Buccaneers considered underdogs. Licht expressed his preference for being underestimated, highlighting the team’s resilience.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield, who succeeded Brady, played a crucial role in the Buccaneers’ success last season. Bowles expressed confidence in Mayfield’s development under new offensive coordinator Liam Coen, emphasizing their strong chemistry.

Bowles also injected humor into the conversation, joking about Coen’s intense meeting room sessions and referencing Aretha Franklin’s famous song about respect. However, it’s evident that Bowles is already using perceived slights as motivation for his players as they prepare for upcoming workouts.
