Raiders Coach Antonio Pierce Leaves No Stone Unturned On Gardner Minshew

In order to give Aidan O’Connell some competition, the Las Vegas Raiders signed quarterback Gardner Minshew in free agency. Head coach Antonio Pierce seems excited about the addition.

Speaking to reporters on Monday at the NFL Annual League Meeting, Pierce stated that Minshew’s impact extends beyond his on-field performance.

Pierce stated on the Raiders’ official YouTube channel, “Aidan did a hell of a job last year, but like any other position on our team, we want to make that as competitive as possible.” Gardner is one of those people who, as his career has shown, always finds a way. That will improve the quality of our room. He’s faced numerous challenges in his life. You also want that experience to be included. It seemed like a wonderful fit to me. It meshes with the culture. That young man right there is crazy.

Minshew played for the Indianapolis Colts during the 2023 season. He started the season as the backup quarterback but was forced into the starting lineup when Anthony Richardson’s shoulder injury sidelined him for the entire campaign.

After attending Washington State for his collegiate career, the 27-year-old was first chosen by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

During his first two years of the NFL, he played for the Jaguars, where he made 20 starts and amassed an incredible 37 touchdowns to just 11 picks.

Minshew completed 62.2 percent of his throws for 3,305 yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 13 games. He also had an 84.6 passer rating. He even attended the Pro Bowl for the first time.

Following Trevor Lawrence’s draft selection by Jacksonville, Minshew was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he played as Jalen Hurts’ backup for two seasons.

After that, Minshew spent the previous season with the Colts before agreeing to a contract with the Raiders earlier this month.

In 2024, we’ll see what kind of opportunities Gardner Minshew receives in Las Vegas.
