Red Sox pitching prospect Richard Fitts impresses in final outing of spring

Red Sox hurler Richard Fitts showcased his prowess in his final spring outing on Tuesday afternoon.

Taking the mound in the Sox’ preseason closer versus the Rangers at Globe Life Field, Fitts faced a formidable lineup but held firm. The righty allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out three over 3 1/3 scoreless frames, contributing to a victorious performance.

Despite keeping Texas off the board, Fitts encountered some traffic on the basepaths. The 24-year-old surrendered a leadoff single to Marcus Semien in the opening inning but stranded him at first. He navigated around a one-out double from top Rangers prospect Wyatt Langford in the second and a leadoff walk drawn by Leody Taveras in the third.

Although Langford and Taveras advanced to third base, they failed to progress further. Following the Red Sox’s 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, Fitts retired the sole batter he faced in the latter part of the frame by striking out reigning ALCS MVP Adolis Garcia on six pitches.

He was then replaced by Isaiah Campbell, the first of seven bullpen arms utilized by manager Alex Cora as Boston secured a 4-1 victory over Texas.
