BYU’s latest standout tight end seems like he was plucked right out of a movie scene, which is quite fitting considering he hails from Laguna Beach, California, not far from Hollywood.
Meet 17-year-old Ryner Swanson, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound self-proclaimed “surfer dude” capturing the attention of everyone involved with the BYU football program as they conclude their 2024 spring practices. Despite his young age, Swanson has his sights set on making an impact before embarking on his mission, acknowledging that he still has much to learn and improve upon.
With his athletic physique, blonde locks, humble demeanor, and youthful optimism, Swanson is winning over fans in Provo. Additionally, his impressive speed, blocking skills, and reliable hands have coaches already touting his potential to contribute significantly when the season kicks off in September.
BYU’s offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick, along with head coach Kalani Sitake, tight ends coach Kevin Gilbride, and linebackers coach Justin Ena, have all taken notice of Swanson’s talents, predicting a bright future for the young Californian, who won’t even turn 18 until June.
