Reporters have had limited access to BYU’s spring football practices, observing Jake Retzlaff and newcomer Gerry Bohanon competing for the quarterback position. Retzlaff’s distinctive sidearm passing contrasts Bohanon’s propensity for scrambling.
While Retzlaff benefits from familiarity with the coaching staff and scheme due to his tenure, Bohanon is showing signs of improvement and comfort with the offense, according to coach Kalani Sitake. Meanwhile, the competition for the third-string quarterback role, led by Treyson Bourguet, appears to have more separation.
However, the focus remains on the starting quarterback position, with Sitake and offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick keeping mum on the ongoing derby. Sitake hinted at Retzlaff’s stronger grasp of the offense before the recent Alumni Game.
