GOOD NEWS: Home runs help Red Sox ring up 12-2 win over Angels

Tanner Houck pitched six shutout innings and was supported by an explosive offense that hit four home runs, leading the Boston Red Sox to a decisive 12-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday in Anaheim, California. The win secured the series for Boston, who took two out of three games.

Houck, now 2-0 this season, built on his impressive season debut by allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. In his two starts, he has amassed 17 strikeouts over 13 scoreless innings.

Boston’s offense was firing on all cylinders with a total of 12 hits, including four home runs. Reese McGuire’s three-run blast in the sixth inning extended Boston’s lead to 7-0 and helped seal the victory. McGuire ended the day with five RBIs.

Tyler O’Neill, who hit two home runs on Friday, added his fifth homer of the season, tying for the major league lead. Rafael Devers and David Hamilton also contributed home runs for Boston.

These homers, particularly by Hamilton, were crucial. Hamilton, called up to replace injured shortstop Trevor Story, surprised with his offensive performance, going 2-for-4 at the plate while showcasing his defensive skills.

Although the Angels threatened in the third inning with runners in scoring position, Houck managed to shut them down.

Mike Trout’s solo homer in the eighth inning and a run scored on a wild pitch in the ninth were the only blemishes for the Red Sox pitching staff.
