Michael Jennings, according to Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson, has a “clear and pure” objective in his last NRL season, and the team will “definitely” celebrate reaching the 300-game mark, even if the league decides not to.
Due to his past transgressions, which include a three-year drug prohibition and a legal judgment against the 35-year-old for sexually abusing his ex-wife while they were dating, Jennings will not be receiving a commemorative football. He also often took cocaine and drank extensively.
Robinson countered that although people were free to “have their opinion,” Jennings, who returned to action last weekend, had “come a long way,” and the Roosters were happy to help someone who was trying to change their life.
“We ought to (joke). In addition to the celebrations being a little different, it’s 300 games,” he stated on Wednesday morning.
“He’s come a long way, Jenko. The questioning of it (the celebration), people can have their opinion, but I feel really proud about what we are doing as a club to get a player that’s bled in our jersey to get back on his feet.”
