Wallabies Call-Up for Reds Trio, Highlanders Rival Crusaders
With a completely dominating 31-nil victory over the Highlanders at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Friday night, the Queensland Reds have restarted their season.
This match felt a little bit like the championships for both sides. Even though there are still over two months until the playoffs, both the Reds and the Highlanders appeared to be interested in this game. Prior to this match, Queensland had suffered three straight losses, and the Highlanders had also suffered defeats in their previous four games. The significance of the Super Rugby Pacific season, which is almost halfway over, is evident.

Hunter Paisami and Ryan Smith’s tries in the first half gave the Reds the upper hand, and the Highlanders were unable to muster much of a response at the renowned rugby stadium in the second half. From the Reds’ bonus point victory over the Highlanders, here are a few key lessons learned.
For Reds, no McReight plus McDermott equals no McWorries.
During the first half, several Reds players in the stands were panned by the Stan Sport coverage. Although young gun Harry McLaughlin-Phillips and James O’Connor were present, two guys who had been disqualified from this bout stole the show. As the cameras lingered, O’Connor, who has yet to play this season owing to a hamstring ailment, gestured to Fraser McReight and Tate McDermott. After being sent off last week, both men are out for a number of games.
