A club’s season can be changed by some mid-season additions. When Hull KR signed half-back Brad Schneider last year, they pulled off a major coup. Schneider elevated the Robins to new heights on his half-season loan from the Canberra Raiders.
Schneider had a crucial role in helping KR advance to the Challenge Cup championship game. But in the end, Leigh prevailed over the Robins in the Wembley showcase. In the league, he also made an impression, defeating Leeds Rhinos with a drop goal on his debut.
A big portion of Rovers’ play-off semi-final qualification came from Schneider’s motivating efforts. They were unable to defeat Wigan Warriors, the eventual Super League champs, nevertheless.

At the end of the previous season, Schneider was in high demand from Super League teams, who were fighting for his signature. Schneider acknowledged that his original plan was to remain in the UK for an additional year in an interview with the ABC Sport Podcast.
“When I went over, I really had no idea what I was going to do. Whether it was at Hull KR or another English team, I had planned to stay there for at least another year.
However, Penrith arrived at the table rather early—during the first few weeks after my arrival. Therefore, it seemed rather obvious to them when they got to the table to return to Australia.
