GOOD NEWS: Bruins keep perspective on series-opening win over Maple Leafs

The Boston Bruins began their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series with a commanding 5-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, coach Jim Montgomery believes his team can raise their performance even further in Game 2 on Monday.

Jake DeBrusk scored two power-play goals within a span of 2 minutes and 32 seconds in the second period, contributing significantly to the Bruins’ win. Johnny Beecher and Brandon Carlo also scored goals for Boston, with Trent Frederic sealing the victory with an empty-net goal in the third period.

Despite the success, Boston forward Jakub Lauko acknowledged that the Maple Leafs will come back stronger in the next game. Coach Montgomery emphasized the importance of improving defensive play at even strength and generating more offensive opportunities in Game 2.

A major storyline for the Bruins is the starting goalie decision for Game 2. Will Jeremy Swayman continue after an impressive 35-save performance, or will Linus Ullmark take over in the net?

On the Maple Leafs’ side, they hope to bounce back from a lackluster Game 1 performance, missing key scorer William Nylander due to injury. Coach Sheldon Keefe highlighted the team’s penalty troubles and offensive struggles but emphasized the need to elevate their game for the upcoming matchup.
