
Mark Pope has broken his silence following his agreement to become the next head basketball coach at Kentucky, expressing gratitude for his time at BYU in a heartfelt social media post on Sunday morning.
“BYU will always be an incredibly special place to our family,” Pope wrote. Reflecting on his experience at BYU, Pope shared how the university changed their lives for the better and expressed overwhelming gratitude for the lifelong friendships forged during his five-year tenure as BYU’s head coach.
Pope, who achieved a 110-52 overall record at BYU with two NCAA Tournament appearances, acknowledged the impact of BYU on his life and coaching career.
He also addressed criticism from some BYU supporters regarding his departure, assuring them of his appreciation and fondness for Cougar Nation.
Looking ahead to his new chapter at Kentucky, Pope expressed excitement for the opportunity to lead the Wildcats’ basketball program, citing God’s influence in making this transition possible.
