Shohei Ohtani, the designated hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers, gave his team a 2-0 lead on Sunday afternoon by hitting a pitch from Adrian Houser deep into the right field pavilion of Dodger Stadium. It was an absolute tape measure job.
Since it was Ohtani’s 176th career home run, it was a historic one.
He now leads all Japanese-born players in Major League Baseball history, ending a tie with longtime former New York Yankees outfielder Hideki Matsui.
Here is a look at Ohtani’s record-breaking home run.
You know it is an impressive home run when the outfielder does not even bother to move or turn around. It was an absolute no-doubter of a home run by one of the game’s greatest players.
Even though Ohtani is not pitching this season as he continues to recover from offseason surgery, but he is still proving to be an incredible investment by the Dodgers.
That home run on Sunday is already his fifth of the season and raised his season batting average to .362 while also giving him a 1.081 OPS.
Just for comparison, his career OPS is .921 while his single-season career high (set during the 2023 season) is 1.066. So in other words, he is hitting better so far this season than he ever has at any point in his already impressive career.
