Mam and Cobbo As Reynolds, Haas, Cleary, and Arrow Enter the Casualty Ward Go back
The loss of Ezra Mam and Selwyn Cobbo has countered the return of Broncos players Adam Reynolds and Payne Haas, while the Panthers have welcomed back Nathan Cleary, Maika Sivo, and Damien Cook through recall. Mam, who excelled in Reynolds’ absence due to a hamstring injury, will miss Brisbane’s trip to Campbelltown to play Wests Tigers due to a finger injury sustained during the team’s victory over Canberra last Saturday, while Cobbo is out due to a hip issue.
At Tuesday’s Broncos practice, the two—along with center Kotoni Staggs, who has been named to play—trained with red bibs, denoting their injuries. Later, Mam informed reporters that his finger had been hooked in a tackle the previous week.
For the Broncos, Cook Islands forward Brendan Piakura (ankle) is also back, and Deine Mariner (back) covers the hole in the backline as Jesse Arthars moves from wing to center. The most noteworthy absences from teams picked for the ANZAC Round are Cobbo and Mam, along with Raiders halfback Jamal Fogarty (biceps), Warriors forward Kurt Capewell (throat), Sharks five-eighth Braydon Trindall (not selected), and Knights superstar Kalyn Ponga (foot).
For the Eels’ game against Manly on Friday night, coach Brad Arthur has brought up explosive rookie Ethan Sanders, who is regarded as one of the league’s best halfback prospects, and recalled Fijian wing sensation Maika Sivo.
