Roar Skipper Is About To Go
Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar captain Tom Aldred, along with central defender Kai Trewin, will play their final game together at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night. Aldred has appeared in 115 games across all competitions since joining the team in 2019, leading the squad in each of those games as captain. However, he and the Roar have not been able to come to an agreement on a new deal.
The Western Sydney Wanderers and Kerala Blasters of the Indian Super League are rumored to have expressed interest in the 33-year-old English-born former Scotland under-19 international, who just became an Australian citizen. During the January–February transfer window, Aldred was also being watched by FC Seoul, a South Korean team, but the move fell through since the center back had not yet received his citizenship documents.
Trewin has been connected to a move to Melbourne City and is also without a contract with Brisbane. Similar to Aldred, the 22-year-old Batesman Bay product has participated in 115 competitions during his senior Roar career, which began in March 2020. Goalkeeper Macklin Freke, who won the Gary Wilkins Medal on Monday night after being selected the team’s player of the season, is one player who is expected to stay with the team.
After having the best A-League season of his career under the guidance of Roar goalie coach and former Socceroos custodian Frank Juric, Freke is poised to sign a new two-year contract.
