Brisbane Broncos are led by Reece Walsh to victory, while Penrith Panthers defeat North Queensland Cowboys.
Superstar fullback Reece Walsh of Brisbane had an interesting Saturday night, when the Broncos defeated the Wests Tigers. He scored two tries, puked on the field, then hobbled off due to cramps. The Tigers were no match for the previous year’s grand champions, who won 34-10 at Campbelltown Stadium by scoring six tries to two. From the start, Walsh was right in the thick of things, contributing significantly to Brisbane’s first try in the sixth minute and going on to score two more of his own. After winger Deine Mariner grabbed a cross-field kick 60 meters away, the fullback completed one of the Broncos’ greatest tries of the season. The team crossed the line just before halftime.
After a 60-meter line break late in the game, Walsh’s grasping at his left calf raised some red flags. However, with ten minutes remaining in the game, the fullback was throwing up on the pitch due to severe cramps. Walsh said to ABC Sport that he might need to modify his preparation a little. “I was cramping and spewing up a little bit there but I’ll probably have a chat to the dietician and see what we can work on so I can get that s*** stuff out,” added the man. Towards the end of his comeback, Adam Reynolds, the captain of Brisbane, too had cramps.
Despite having no more interchanges, Reynolds hobbled off the field as the Broncos concluded the game with 12 men.
