NEWS REPORT:Penrith Forward Charged By MRC Over High Shot

In the close victory over the Cowboys on Saturday, he made the tackle.

Only one charge from Saturday’s games has been handed down by the NRL’s match review committee, with rookie forward Liam Henry of the Penrith Panthers being cited for a high tackle.

The youthful player, who will undoubtedly play a bigger part in the years to come, was charged with a Grade 1 reckless high tackle after he took a shot on Kulikef Finefeuiaki, a second-rower for the North Queensland Cowboys, during a close victory for the men from the foot of the Alps.

Henry’s rolling 12-month record begins with this Grade 1 offense, for which he will pay $1000 if he enters an early guilty plea or $1500 if he challenges the case and loses.

The match review committee did not issue any additional charges following the Panthers’ victory over the Cowboys; Henry was the only player to be placed on report. The match review committee also decided not to press charges in the previous game, which saw the Brisbane Broncos defeat the Wests Tigers handily.

That was in spite of the fact that during the match, referee Grant Atkins and review official Peter Gough placed Wests Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu and Brisbane Broncos center Kotoni Staggs on report.

Henry can decide whether to accept the early guilty plea or go to court on Monday at noon (AEST). A possible hearing could take place at NRL headquarters on Tuesday night.
