Moments after the Kansas City Chiefs revealed its 2024 NFL schedule, one of the team’s injured players took to X (previously Twitter) to hint at his expected return date. Charles Omenihu, a Chiefs defensive lineman, tore his ACL during the AFC Championship Game victory against the Baltimore Ravens. Due to the injury, Omeninhu was unable to face his former team, the San Francisco 49ers, in Super Bowl LVIII. He had successful surgery to fix the injury in February and has kept followers up to date on his injury treatment and recuperation via his YouTube account.
Now that the 2024 timeline is clear, Omenihu appears to have a target return date fixed.
So, when can Omenihu expect to be back in action? His next post on X suggests he’ll be back in play in Week 13 versus the Las Vegas Raiders at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. He posted a video and photo of his sack versus the Raiders on Christmas Day 2023.
Omenihu appeared in 11 games with one start during the regular season in 2023, recording 28 total tackles, five tackles for loss, seven sacks, two passes batted, and two forced fumbles in that span. He appeared in three playoff games, recording three total tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble.
No, 90 might not be part of the initial plan in 2024 as he recovers from injury, but he can certainly provide a boost on the defensive side of the ball should he return to action in the second half of the season. He’d potentially play in five AFC games after Week 13, including matchups with the Chargers, Browns, Texans, Steelers, and Broncos.
