Dalton (Ga.) High School honoured one of its football program’s most dynamic players this weekend. Jahmyr Gibbs, a former four-star running back in the 2020 recruiting cycle, pulled fans to their feet every Friday night while playing for Dalton.
When he touched the ball, he created excitement as a running back, wide receiver, return specialist, and wildcat quarterback. Gibbs’ explosiveness and versatility vexed opponents and coaches alike.
Gibbs spent two seasons at Georgia Tech after dominating high school, but he made his biggest impact at the University of Alabama. He transferred to Alabama in the spring of 2022 and scored a big touchdown run on A-Day.
Gibbs became a star in one season for Alabama, totaling 926 rushing yards, 444 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns — helping the Crimson Tide to an Allstate Sugar Bowl victory over Kansas State. He was selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions and had a great rookie campaign. In his return home to Dalton, Ga., Gibbs had his high school jersey retired.
His family, close friends, marketing agency, and coaches from the Lions came to support him.
Alabama leaned on Gibbs a lot in 2022, and he did not disappoint. He is enjoying this time being honored as Tide fans look forward to seeing how he does in year two in the National Football League.
